Abraham Ponce was awarded the first Madsen Foundation scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic year. Abraham was born in Guadalajara, Mexico,
but moved at a very early age with his family to Minnesota. Mr. Ponce worked in construction as well as the restaurant industry during
high school to help support his family, and still managed to be a successful student at Woodbury High School.
Mr. Ponce is enrolled at Century Community College.
The Madsen Foundation works with Minnesota charter schools, high schools, and other post-secondary educational institutions for assistance
in identifying applicants who meet our scholarship requirements. Applicants for our scholarships must meet the following requirements:
students must hold a high school diploma or the equivalent; students must either be attending a post-secondary educational institution in Minnesota, or
be accepted into a post-secondary institution in Minnesota; and students must show substantial financial need for tuition assistance.
Several factors are considered in the selection of our scholars, including life experience, degree of financial
hardship, and access or ability to attain other financial resources for tuition.
Madsen Foundation scholars are required to provide quarter, semester or other scheduled grade releases to the
Madsen Foundation. All scholarship recipients must remain in good standing, and must be enrolled full-time in classes actively progressing
towards completion of the educational program. Madsen Foundation reserves the right to
discontinue scholarships for a violation of any academic rules, or violation of the requirements of our scholarship program.
Since Madsen Foundation relies on donations, the number of scholarships provided
each year is determined by the financial resources available to the Madsen Foundation.
